Gojek Name Will Be Used in 4 Countries
Indonesia's most valuable startup, Gojek, will combine their online motorcycle (ojol) services in Vietnam and Thailand in one using Gojek name and platform. Gojek initiatives to strengthen their operations and brand image outside Indonesia.
This action is also carried out by Gojek to compete with Grab, which uses one name in all regions where it operates. Previously, Gojek used the names GoViet in Vietnam and Get in Thailand to operate its services in both countries.
"Next, we can serve the market better and bring better business to each country by combining technology and brands," Andrew Lee, Head of International Gojek, told the Nikkei Asian Review.
"This plan has been running for months. We started a strategy to upgrade, be more efficient, serve consumers better in those markets, since the middle of last year," he explained.
Launching GoViet in Vietnam in 2018 and Get in Thailand in 2019 initially was Gojek's strategy to use different local brand names and applications. At that time, Nadiem Makarim, founder of Gojek who is now the Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) RI, said Gojek did not want to bring foreign brands to operate in the two countries.
However, this strategy makes people have to download different applications, including Gojek users who come to Vietnam and Thailand. By combining brands and technology, Gojek can bring new services to the markets of countries outside Indonesia more efficiently. Previously, the name Gojek was only used in Indonesia and Singapore. This merger will make the total name Gojek used in four countries, including Vietnam and Thailand.
